Princeton Theological Seminary was founded by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church in 1812. The cornerstone of Alexander Hall, the institution’s first building and the first building built by the Presbyterian Church for use as a seminary, was laid in 1815.

A version of this somewhat fanciful illustration of Alexander Hall was first used in 1841 in the Seminary catalogue, and it continued to be used on official publications throughout much of the nineteenth century.

Plates displaying this illustration in honor of the Seminary’s Bicentennial in 2012 can be ordered through the Theological Book Agency for $60 per plate, plus shipping and handling.
