FE 2111 Field Education: Clinical Pastoral Education
FE 3111 Elective Field Education: Clinical Pastoral Education
Considered a specialized ministry, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) may be used to satisfy the academic year field education requirement. Sixteen hours per week are spent in various hospitals and other health and welfare institutions working under the guidance of chaplain-supervisors approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). Requirements include the submission of a CPE learning plan and a CPE final evaluation (this includes a copy of the student’s site appraisal as well as responses to supplemental questions provided by PTS). Two credits and one ACPE or CPSP unit are awarded only at the end of the second semester. Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in a pastoral care course prior to CPE.

PC4111 Year Long Clinical Pastoral Education
Supervised clinical pastoral education in various hospitals and other health and welfare institutions on a part-time basis (sixteen hours per week) during the academic year. Supervision is under the guidance of chaplain-supervisors approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). Requirements include the submission of a CPE learning plan and a CPE final evaluation (this includes a copy of the student’s site appraisal as well as responses to supplemental questions provided by PTS). Limited to Th.M. candidates, seniors and middlers. This course does not fulfill Practical Theology Department distribution requirements. Three credits and one ACPE or CPSP unit awarded at the end of the second semester. Prerequisites: Must have prior or concurrent Pastoral Care course.

Summer

Considered a specialized ministry, Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) may be used to satisfy the summer education requirement. Students work full-time (typically 11 weeks) in various hospitals and other health and welfare institutions working under the guidance of chaplain-supervisors approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy (CPSP). Students are strongly encouraged to enroll in a one-semester course in pastoral care prior to the CPE placement. A CPE learning plan may be submitted in place of the learning/serving covenant. CPE evaluations plus field education supplemental questions are submitted in place of Princeton Seminary field education appraisals. Two credits and one ACPE or CPSP unit are awarded only at the end of the second semester.

Supervised clinical pastoral education in various hospitals and other health and welfare institutions on a full-time basis (typically eleven weeks) during the summer. Supervision is under the guidance of chaplains approved by the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education. Requirements include the submission of a CPE learning plan and a CPE final evaluation (this includes a copy of the student’s site appraisal as well as responses to supplemental questions provided by PTS). Limited to Th.M. candidates, seniors and middlers. This course does not fulfill Practical Theology Department distribution requirements. 3 credits and one ACPE or CPSP unit awarded at the end of the second semester. Prerequisites: Must have prior pastoral care course.
